ABSTRACT: Fifty patient of leprosy have been screened for bacillaemia by buffy coat method. 20 cases (40 percent) showed bacillaemia and bacilli were found in monocytes and polymorph nuclear cells. In 4 cases bacilli were uniformly stained (believed to be the viable form). None of the patient towards tuberculoid spectrum showed bacillaemia. A definite correlation was observed between the bacterial index (BI) in the skin and detection of bacilli in the blood. |
