Clinco-therapeutic study of acne vulgaris with reference to comedo counting. |
p. 3 |
SK Ghosh, AK Roy ABSTRACT: 100 cases of acne vulgaris of different ages were treated with Oral tetracycline, 5 percent benzoyl peroxide gel, retinoic acid (0.05 percent) cream. 3 percent erythromycin lotion, 1 percent clindamycin gel (18 patients in each group) and methylated spirit (10 patients) used as a control and they were evaluated every two weeks for a period of 3 months. Both sexes were equally affected and maximum incidence was within 16-25 years. Two-third cases presented with non-inflammatory and one-third with inflammatory lesions. Both types of lesions responded almost equally to all the topical and oral treatment schedule, but the failed cases of topical therapy responded to higher doses of oral tetracycline. lrritant effects with retinoic acid and benzoyl peroxide were very mild. No systemic side effect was detected with topical clindamycin. |
