Squamous cell carcinoma in discoid lupus erythematosus with mutilating changes |
p. 12 |
SK Sadhu, SR. Sengupta ABSTRACT: Squamous cell carcinoma arising from a chronic Discold lupus Erythematosus lesion is rare now-a-days due to easy availability of steroids, protective sun screens, antimalarials drugs and growing consciousness of patient 1-5. D.L.E. producing atrophy and scarring was early documented but mutilation and destruction of any parts of the body was never reported. A case of squamous cell carcinomas developed in a plaque of chronic DLE in the right forearm with mutilating changes in the ear and nose in an elderly black patient is reported. |

Squamous cell carcinoma complicating lupus vulgaris |
p. 14 |
A Salodkar, AK Khare, R Khullar, MK Singhi, K Ahmed, D. Kachhawa ABSTRACT: In a case of lupus vulgaris, the complications which are usually encourntered are secondary infection, tissue destruction and scarring. The latter may result in ectropion, microstomia, lymphoedema and gross deformity requiring plastic surgery. Squamous cell and less commonly basal cell carcinomas or sarcomas may occur insidiously, sometimes early in the disease but usually after 10-15 years and may be confused with renewed activity of the lupus itself 1. Squamous cell carcinoma arising in the lesion of lupus vulgaris has been reported by some authors 2-4. We here in report a male patient who developed squamous cell carcinoma in the lesion of lupus vulgaris two years later. |
