Antipityosporum activity of a herbal drug combination of Wrighria tinctoria and Hibiscus rosasinensis was tested in vitro against the isolates of Pityrosporum ovale recovered from dandruff. The drug combination exhibited fungicidal activity at a concentration ranging between 500 to1000 pg/ml.

A Study Of Sexually Transmitted Diseases With Application Of Syndromic Approach

The pattern of sexually transmitted diseases in Assam Medical College was studied for a period of one year. The incidence of sexually transmitted diseases was 1.43%. Out of 150 patients the number of patients with genitoulcerative diseases was syphilis 27 (18%), herpes genitalis 26(17.33%), condyloma acuminate 30 (20%), chancroid 11 (7.33%), donovanosis 2(1.33%) and LGV 1(0.67%). Patients with urethral or vaginal discharge comprised of gonorrhoea 4(2.67%) Vulvovaginitis 14 (9.33%), NGU 12(8.00%), trichomoniasis 2(1.33%), balanoposthitis 17(11.33%).

A Study On Combination Therapy With Puvasol And Topical Corticosteroid In Psoriasis Vulgaris Involving Scalp

The efficacy and safety of betamethsone dipropionate 0.05% with salicylic acid 2% scalp lotion was evaluated in patients with moderate to server scalp psoriasis. Out of 150 patients with scalp psoriasis 75 Patients received PUVASOL alone and 75 patients received PUVASOL along with lotion 0.05% betamethsone dipropionate with 2% salicylic acid scalp application for3 weeks. The erythema, indurations, scales application for 3 weeks treatment course with combination therapy. At the end of therapy, 59(78.6%) of those patients receiving combination therapy had 75% improvement of their scalp psoriasis versus 26(34.6%) nose patients using PUVASOL alone. Complete clearing of the scalp was seen in 28 (37.3%) patients receiving therapy and 10 (13.3%) cases receiving treated with topical betamethasone dipropionate with salicylic acid appears to be safe and an effective treatment for scalp psoriasis.

A 48 year old Postmenopausal woman with asymptomatic pancreatitis developed tender subcutaneous nodules with fat necrosis. Thus panniculitis may be the first presenting feature of an asymptomatic pancreatic disease. In any case of panniculitis detailed work up should be done to rule out underlying associated pathology. Treatment of Pancreatitis in our patient resulted in resolution of her skin lesions.

Purpura Annularis Telangiectoides

A 40 year old male developed pigmented patches on both legs for last 4 months. These non blaching lesions with telangiectses at the periphery were mostly annular in shape but a few were arciform. Some lesions showed central atrophy. History and systemic examination were noncontributory and there was no associated varicosity. Clinical and histological assessements diagnosed the case as purpura annularis telangiectoids or Majochi’s disease.

Fluorouracil As Topical Agent In The Treatment Of Anogenital Warts

Viral warts are difficult to treat. In this study the efficacy of 5% 5 fluorouracil cream in condyloma acuminata and other types of verrucae was compared to their standard mode is therapy, viz., podophyllin for the former and electrodessications for the later. It was seen that 5% 5 fluorouracil cream was superior to local application of 25% podophyllin in tine benzoin in the treatment of condyloma acuminata with low rate of recurrence, whereas this method is successful only in 30% of cases of verruca vulgaris without any recurrence.

A 55 year old male having borderline lepromatous leprosy receiving MB-MDT for one and half year developed several keratoic papules and plaques with central plug and scar formation, mainly on his extremities.
